As board member I am responsible for planning / orchestrating the “ribbon cuttings” for new businesses, as well as organizing the Suttons Bay Socials. I have been a board member for almost 1 year now. My wife, Maddie and dog, Sutton live in Cedar and have been life-long Leelanau county residences. One of the Chamber’s main objectives is to bring folks together, and help promote our local businesses. As you have probably seen, one way we are doing this is through our Suttons Bay Socials. These events take place at a host business or organization who provides the event space. (Food and drink are also usually provided via other local businesses). Each event includes a “learning topic”. Sometimes this takes the form of an update on an ongoing project; other times it’s a brief summary of professional services offered. Our previous Suttons Bay Social events have taken place at Gilchrist Farm Winery, The Suttons Bay Harbor House, and Inland Seas Education Association. Not only do these events allow for attendees to meet and socialize with their neighbors, but they encourage engagement and exploration within our Chamber businesses in an informative yet casual environment. There are no RSVP’s required to join these events, and everyone is welcome whether you’re a Chamber member or not. Our next Suttons Bay Social event is tentatively slated for January. Keep an eye out for upcoming details! Best, Cole Julian ——————— VILLAGE OF SUTTONS BAY ———————- FALL Curbside Pick-up There will be curbside pick-up this year, on Monday September 14 for Village residents only. Please limit the material and volume to: 15 bags of refuse or the equivalent thereof. Natural materials will not be accepted. no brush, leaves, or yard waste. One appliance. Refrigerators and freezers must have freon removed. This can be done by any heating/cooling contractor. Any unit not appropriately tagged will not be accepted. Tires: Limit two passenger tires or one truck tire. Chemicals & toxic substances: Not acceptable. Florescent light ballasts and car batteries: Not acceptable. Drywall & construction materials prohibited. Paint cans must be open and the contents must be dry.
If you have any questions, please call the Village Hall at 271-3051. Curbside pick-up takes place in the Village only. If you live on a private street, please take your junk to the nearest public street. Please do not put in the roadway! Please have your refuse curbside by 7:00 a.m. on September 14. American Waste will only be making one (1) pass on each street.

Mark your calendar! Green Suttons Bay is planning a community event called BULBS & BREW on Friday, October 23 at 5:00PM. This is an opportunity for the whole community to join together in planting bulbs throughout the village green spaces along M22, then celebrate our volunteers with free food provided by Green Suttons Bay. Who: Everyone! What: Plant bulbs and then celebrate! Where: Start at VI Grill, plant bulbs throughout the village, finish at VI Grill When: Friday, October 23, 5:00 - 8:00PM Why: Imagine Spring 2027 when hundreds of bulbs bloom in the village of Suttons Bay after a long, dark winter!
We are hoping to get support for this village enhancement project from local businesses and community members. More details to come! ————————————————————————————————- Village Rain Garden Work Bee: Thursday, September 17, 10 - 11:30AM Green Suttons Bay will finish up our summer maintenance of the village rain gardens. Please join us in helping to keep these functioning properly for collecting and filtering storm water. Meet at the corner of M22 (St. Joseph) and Madison St. in Suttons Bay (by the VI Grill). Please bring gloves, shovels, digging tools and clippers. ————————————————————————————————- Show-up / Pick-up, Village Trash Clean-up: Tuesday, September 22, 5:00PM at Waterwheel Park We will gather at Waterwheel Park (intersection of Jefferson and St. Mary’s Ave) then canvas the village to pick-up litter in Suttons Bay. We need everyone’s help to keep our community clean, so bring your family, friends and neighbors! The roof has come off, the walls are down, and space is being made for the brand-new Inland Seas Education Center.
